Peterhead Choral Society was formed in 1867 in the great Victorian era of Choral singing. The society was soon to establish itself as one of the best choirs in the area. The early 20th century saw special trains being laid on from Aberdeen to convey huge audiences to its concerts in Peterhead, when soloists with the choir included such names as Dame Clara Butt one of the leading contraltos of her day.
The society continued to flourish throughout the 20th Century performing many of the best known works from the Choral repertoire, but in recent years a general decline in the interest in Choral singing saw a reduction in membership and audience numbers.
It was decided in 2019 that a different direction was required, and so the Society changed its name to Ugie Voices, reflecting the fact that most of its members came from the catchment area of the River Ugie. At the same time a more varied style of music was added to the repertoire.
